Do you live in a house or a flat?
A flat. I live on the fifth floor of a fairly old building in Mohammadpur, in Dhaka. It isn't huge, just three bedrooms and a small balcony, but it's comfortable, and being that high up means we get a decent breeze, which really matters in the summer.
Who do you live with?
With my parents and my younger sister. My grandmother also stays with us for a few months every year, usually over the winter. It can get a bit crowded, especially when we all want the bathroom at the same time in the morning, but I like having everyone around.
How long have you lived there?
For about nine years now. We moved there when I was in class seven, after my father changed jobs. At first I hated it because I'd left all my school friends behind, but these days I know half the neighbourhood, including the man at the corner tea stall.
Which room in your home do you like the most? Why?
Probably the balcony, if that counts as a room. My mother grows chillies, aloe vera and even a small lemon tree in pots out there, so it feels surprisingly fresh. I usually sit there with a cup of tea after dinner, and it's the only place I can really switch off.
If you could change one thing about your home, what would it be?
I'd add a proper study space. At the moment my desk is squeezed into the corner of my bedroom next to the wardrobe, and with the TV blaring in the next room, it's hard to concentrate. A small, quiet room just for reading and working would make a huge difference to me.
What kind of home would you like to have in the future?
Something a bit outside the city centre, with more open space. I don't need anything grand, just a flat with big windows, a proper balcony and maybe a small rooftop garden. Ideally it would be close enough to my parents that I could visit them without spending two hours in traffic.
